WICSU-PSU Responds

The Board of WICSU PSU acknowledges the recent letter to the editor published in The People’s Tribune and wishes to clarify several misconceptions about the operations of this Union.

WICSU PSU is governed by a Board that meets monthly to review and address all matters concerning the membership. No action is taken without the full support of the Board, and certainly not without the involvement and backing of the membership—particularly the Shop Stewards, who play a central role in every process.

This Union operates with clear processes and procedures, and we adhere to them consistently. All member complaints must be submitted in writing before they are addressed. When meetings are held with employers to discuss employee concerns, the employee is present, a Shop Steward is included whenever possible, and the President is accompanied by at least one additional representative of the WICSU PSU Board.

The President’s visibility reflects her responsibility to champion the concerns of the membership. Two things can be true at once: she may be the most visible representative, and she is never acting alone. Board members and Shop Stewards are always part of the process.

It is also important to emphasize that this Union represents the majority. When systemic issues arise within an organization, WICSU PSU has a duty to address them on behalf of the majority of its members—even when not every individual may agree.
