Trust issues

We do not trust our government
We do not trust our politicians
We do not trust our parliamentarians
We do not trust our professionals
We do not trust our fellow Blacks
We do not trust our Caribbean brothers and sisters, oh no!
We do not trust even our pastors
We do not trust our neighbors
We do not trust our children
We do not trust ourselves
But, oh yes, we trust massa
We trust him with all our heart and soul
We trust him to save us
we trust him to rule us
We trust him to run our affairs
We trust him because he is not one of us
We trust him because he’s not corrupt
We trust him because he’ll take care of us
Like he has done for centuries
Milking our sweat, reaping our salt
Drinking our blood in champagne glasses
We will never leave him nor forsake him
We will never give him up nor betray him
We forgive him for 400 years of rape
400 years of brutality and dehumanization
400 years of erasure and oppression
All of that is in the past
though he rides on a carriage of stolen gold with our ancestors still chained to its doors
All of that is buried in the past
why rattle the bones of gory ghosts
No need for Reparations-
Who wants a check for centuries of unpaid labor when we can get a loan with indecent conditions
Who needs independence when we can remain subjects of people who fought 80 years for their own independence
Massa can plunder but tis we fault we poor
Massa has been supervising we financially
Bet tis we fault we drowning in debt to him
We tell our children not to come back home ‘causin’ it ain’t got nothing here for them
Bet we fume and rage because foreigners filling the positions that should go to them
How did we get so?
What made us hate ourselves so?
Let us pray to their green god
becausin’ in him we all trust.
