Somebody help us in VROMI

I waited a long time to speak up because I feared backlash. I still prefer to remain unnamed, and I thank The Peoples’ Tribune for protecting the identity of workers like me.

VROMI is not functioning. Work is stuck, the backlog keeps growing, and staff are exhausted. People are getting sick from stress. This is not about calling in sick, they are genuinely sick! The constant micromanaging slows everything down and nothing moves.

I understand the need to improve systems. However, treating every file like a possible scam has created a loop where we try to fix gaps that are not there, while real work piles up. The result is less people capacity because we are tired, stressed, fedup.

We need outside help. MP Sarah suggested bringing in support, and we heard assistance was offered at no cost. Where is that help, and why has it not been accepted?

These are my views as one worker. Inside the ministry, trust is low. So I can't speak for anyone because you don't know who to trust. There has been no effort to build team spirit. Compare this with VSA, which held a staff retreat to strengthen its team. VROMI needs something similar. Instead the Minister indirectly accuse all of us of taking bribes. Talk about motivation!

The delays are hurting the country. Projects worth millions are leaving St. Maarten because permits are not moving. Homeowners cannot even get small additions approved, like a simple room for a family member, at a time when housing there is no housing. So people try to do what we always do in St. Maarten, we expand the home. But people can't even do that. Nothing is moving!

We want to serve the public and feel proud of our work. We want to see results. Somebody from the coalition please step in, set clear direction, and help the minister and the ministry get on track. Then again, make up y'all mind as well who is the actual Minister. On some days it feels like different people from the PFP are running VROMI.

Somebody please, help us fix this.
