GREAT BAY--The Windward Islands Teachers’ Union is calling on the community to support students and families impacted by Category 5 Hurricane Melissa. The union has launched a Toy and School Supplies Drive to help children regain a sense of normalcy as they return to school. Many families lost their homes and the basic tools children need to learn and play.

WITU is also inviting every school to join a letter-writing initiative, “Cheer Mail.” Primary and secondary students are encouraged to write short messages of encouragement to peers in affected areas. These letters will be delivered with the donated toys and school supplies to lift spirits during recovery.

How to help: follow the Windward Islands Teachers’ Union Facebook page for drop-off times at the WITU office in Madame Estate, or email witu.teachers@gmail.com if you wish to assist. A small act of kindness, a toy, a backpack, or a letter, can make a world of difference to a child who has lost everything.
