GREAT BAY--The St. Maarten Tourism Bureau (STB) recently welcomed a delegation of 14 travel agents from the Dominican Republic, together with representatives from Air Century, for a targeted Familiarization (FAM) trip aimed at deepening regional partnerships and growing St. Maarten’s presence in the Dominican market.

Over several days, participants followed a structured program that included cultural activities, culinary experiences, island tours, hotel site inspections, and visits to key attractions and businesses on both sides of the island. From beaches and restaurants to events and scenic viewpoints, the itinerary was designed to give travel professionals a clear, first-hand view of St. Maarten as a destination that offers both vibrant activity and peaceful escapes.

The results were immediate. While still on island, travel agents began promoting St. Maarten through their business channels and personal social media, which led to bookings for upcoming travel within the same week. Some attendees also indicated that the island’s atmosphere and lifestyle made them consider potential investment opportunities in St. Maarten.

"We are thrilled about the success of this FAM trip and the enthusiasm shown by our partners from the Dominican Republic and Air Century,” said Jacqueline Louis, STB's Caribbean Agent. “Their engagement and early bookings reaffirm the growing demand for St. Maarten, as well as the value of firsthand destination immersion.”

STB extended special thanks to Oyster Bay Beach Resort, which hosted the group. The property’s service and hospitality gave participants a direct experience of the friendliness that St. Maarten is known for.

Gina Illidge, Caribbean Marketing Officer at STB, highlighted the strategic importance of the initiative: “The Dominican Republic is a key regional market with strong potential for growth. This FAM trip created not just awareness, but emotional connection, allowing travel professionals to truly understand and sell St. Maarten with confidence and enthusiasm."

Air Century representatives expressed similar appreciation for the collaboration and the on-island program.

"St. Maarten Tourism Bureau is truly the best host that we could have asked for. We deeply appreciate everything you did to ensure the success of this FAM trip, which was well orchestrated from beginning to the end. The agents who visited St. Maarten have now become proud ambassadors of the Friendly Island, and their positive impressions are already spreading far and wide. Thank you for your commitment, your passion, your energy, your time, and the joy you brought to this experience. You made all the difference for us," shared José Arcila, Air Century Sales Manager.

Building on the success of this initiative, the St. Maarten Tourism Bureau will continue working closely with Air Century and travel trade partners in the Dominican Republic to strengthen regional connectivity and position St. Maarten as a leading Caribbean getaway for Dominican travelers.
