GREAT BAY--The Sint Maarten Drag Racing Association (SMDA) held a members’ meeting on Sunday, December 28, 2025, during which several governance decisions were taken to support the continued development of drag racing and motorsports on the island.
During the meeting, former President Raymond Connor addressed the membership and outlined his reasons for resigning. Members acknowledged the resignations of the outgoing board, Raymond Connor (President), Stella Richardson (Secretary), and Leroy Liburd (Treasurer), and thanked them for their service.
Nominations were then opened for the election of an interim board to serve for a period of three months. The newly elected interim board is:
- Denis Gibs, President
- Joessie York Gittens, Secretary
- Robert Carty, Treasurer
The interim board has been mandated to carry out the following within the three-month period:
- Organize and conduct elections for a new board in accordance with the Association’s Articles of Incorporation
- Update the Association’s records with the Chamber of Commerce and relevant banking institutions
- Secure all financial and administrative records from the former board
- Engage in discussions with the Sint Maarten Motorsports (Automotive) Federation and the Sint Maarten Sports Federation
- Organize and support events that promote drag racing on St. Maarten
- Address any additional matters necessary to advance the objectives of the Association
SMDA remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the continued development of motorsports on St. Maarten. Members and stakeholders will be kept informed as the interim board carries out its mandate and prepares for upcoming elections and events.
