TRINIDAD & TOBAGO--Intercontinental Aviation Enterprise (IAE), represented by Bud Slabbert of CARIBAVIA Summit, on Monday announced that Captain Alicia Hackshaw, MSc., Aviation Strategy & Innovation Advisor and Principal of Aeroman Aviation Consultants Ltd, has been formally authorized to engage with the Government of Trinidad & Tobago and relevant stakeholders to advance plans for the establishment of a new aviation academy of higher learning in the country. Official meetings are scheduled to begin this week.
This development follows Ms. Hackshaw’s presentation at the CARIBAVIA Summit & Retreat in St. Barth, during which she addressed “The Importance of Aviation Investment in the Caribbean to Foster Economic Growth and Development”. Her involvement in the project is being seen as a direct outcome of the connections and visibility gained there.
The proposed investment is estimated at over US$30 million, with projected benefits including economic inflows of approximately US$3 million into the local economy through student housing, food services, and related support sectors.
"This partnership is more than an agreement, it is a signal that the Caribbean is ready to step confidently onto the world stage of aviation. By linking our region with a partner that has successfully delivered large-scale aviation projects in the Middle East, Europe, and beyond, we are unlocking the potential for new foreign exchange inflows, high-quality jobs, world-class aviation infrastructure, and sustainable economic growth. The Caribbean cannot stand still while aviation investment accelerates across the globe. This step demonstrates that we are not only part of the conversation, but that we are determined to lead. For Trinidad & Tobago, this is an opportunity to transform aviation into a cornerstone of national and regional growth, and we look forward to ensuring this vision becomes a reality for the benefit of our people and our economy." — Alicia Hackshaw
CARIBAVIA, the Caribbean Aviation Summit & Retreat, is an annual gathering that brings together leaders from aviation, tourism, government, investment, and academia. Known for its intimate, retreat-style setting, the event emphasizes meaningful networking, collaboration, and actionable dialogue rather than large-scale presentations. The summit highlights the crucial role of aviation in fostering regional economic growth, with discussions on inter-island connectivity, liberalization of Caribbean skies, sustainable tourism, airport development, and education. By convening global and regional stakeholders, CARIBAVIA has become a catalyst for partnerships and initiatives that strengthen the Caribbean’s aviation and tourism sectors.
