GREAT BAY--The Bridge to Bold St. Maarten Foundation hosted its executive showcase, “Dream Big, Shine Bright – Celebrating St. Maarten’s Rising Stars,” on Saturday evening at the Motorworld Showroom in Cole Bay, bringing together corporate executives, government officials, cultural leaders, and community partners in support of youth scholarships and international education pathways. The all-white benefit event highlighted the Foundation’s work to expand academic and artistic opportunities for young people through strategic partnerships and targeted scholarship support.
Prime Minister Luc Mercelina opened the program and emphasized the importance of creating access for young people to develop and compete globally. “The strength of our nation lies in the potential of our young people. Tonight, we celebrate not only their talent, but the collective responsibility we share to create opportunities that allow them to thrive. Bridge to Bold St. Maarten Foundation is building pathways that ensure St. Maarten’s future leaders can take their place on the world stage, and my government is committed to supporting that vision.”
The Prime Minister also introduced a pre-recorded message from legendary entertainer Ms. Dionne Warwick, whose words of encouragement set the tone for the evening.
Focus on partnerships and educational pathways
Director of Charlotte Brookson Academy for the Performing Arts (CBA) Silveria Jacobs outlined the collaboration between CBA, Bowie State University, represented at the event, and the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. She stressed the importance of nurturing young people in both their craft and their character. She was joined by education partners who are working with Bridge to Bold to expand opportunities for St. Maarten students:
• Dr. Lynn Long, Head of the Bowie State University Education Department
• Dr. Tasheka Green, Independent Education Consultant
• Sharina Casseus, Bridge to Bold Sint Maarten Foundation Board Member
Their participation highlighted the Foundation’s commitment to structured academic pathways, mentorship, and international exposure. “Tonight reminds us that when we invest in our young people, we are investing in the very future of St. Maarten. Their talent, their courage, and their determination are proof that our island’s potential is limitless. Bridge to Bold Sint Maarten Foundation is opening doors that once seemed out of reach, and together, we are ensuring that every rising star has the opportunity to shine far beyond our shores," Jacobs said.
Scholarship focus and student achievement
This year’s fundraising priorities focused on:
• Supporting Keon Blair, who is continuing his university studies at Bowie State University
• Assisting two students preparing to attend the 2026 Summer Arts Program
• Encouraging collaboration among government, private sector, and the wider community to expand sustainable scholarship and youth development initiatives
A video update from Keon provided insight into his academic journey and experience at Bowie State University, followed by a feature on the Duke Ellington School of the Arts. Remarks from Ms. Sandi Logan, Head of School and Principal, reaffirmed the school’s commitment to cultural and educational exchange.
Keon also shared his academic progress, including earning a 3.3 GPA and making the Dean’s List at Bowie State University this year. His achievements were presented as an example of what becomes possible when students are supported to pursue higher education without financial barriers. Bridge to Bold underscored its intention to expand scholarship offerings so more students from St. Maarten can follow similar paths.
